The Miami Film Festival opened with a bang with a screening of Tully. The newest film from Jason Reitman staring Charlize Theron, Mackenzie Davis, Mark Duplass, and Ron Livingston. The film follows Marlo (Charlize Theron), a mother of three, and her journey of raising her third newborn with the help of her night-nanny, Tully (Mackenzie Davis). After having her third kid, Marlo is drained beyond recognition. Taking care of her newborn Mia, and her other two children; “Quirky” son Jonah, and her daughter Sarah, who is at the stage in her young life of “being hard on herself” drives Marlo to a breaking point.

Marlo’s wealthy brother (Mark Duplass) offers her a gift of night-nanny Tully, who she resists for a couple of weeks, but gives in after baby care gets to be too much for her. 27-year-old Tully, is Marlo’s knight-nanny in very hip armor. Not only does Tully, take care of Mia throughout the night, but she cleans the house, bakes cupcakes, and offers wisdom beyond her years. Tully brings Marlo back to her recognizable self. The journey strikes a chord.

Tully, the third movie from director Jason Reitman and writer Diablo Cody, is a humorous yet emotionally-raw take on the demanding trek that is motherhood. Tully is set to be released in theaters on April 20, 2018 and I recommend you check it out.
